Inspiration Poems
for You to Read

Four Otters for Inspiration Poems Page

Read and share inspiration poems with the Inspirational Otter.

Below is an excerpt from Rime of the Ancient Mariner. This is the part where the Mariner looks out into the ocean and where he had previously seen gross, slimy snakes and ugliness becomes illumined and sees the beauty of his seemingly bleak surroundings.

This is the theme behind the Inspirational Otter website. From my prior jobs working at escort agencies to being overweight to getting fired from a private investigation firm while my career as a stand-up comic was on the skids after a car accident, I finally have developed the skill to see what was and what is with new eyes and see its beauty, truth and purpose.

And like the Ancient Mariner, the albatross that was, and still sometimes is, my pain and suffering has fallen away.

If you know the poem well, you know that the Ancient Mariner shares his story with a passenger at a boat on a party who has a certain look in his eye. You are that passenger at the party. And you are also the Mariner. Embrace the beauty and truth in unusual places. Read my blog. Share your story.

Excerpt from
Rime of the Ancient Mariner

from part IV or V
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

By the light of the Moon he beholdeth God's creatures of the great calm.

Beyond the shadow of the ship,
I watched the water-snakes :
They moved in tracks of shining white,
And when they reared, the elfish light
Fell off in hoary flakes.

Within the shadow of the ship
I watched their rich attire :
Blue, glossy green, and velvet black,
They coiled and swam ; and every track
Was a flash of golden fire.

Their beauty and their happiness.

He blesseth them in his heart.

O happy living things ! no tongue
Their beauty might declare :
A spring of love gushed from my heart,
And I blessed them unaware :
Sure my kind saint took pity on me,
And I blessed them unaware.

The spell begins to break.

The self-same moment I could pray ;
And from my neck so free
The Albatross fell off, and sank
Like lead into the sea.
